Websites are cool!
I used to be a website designer. I know HTML, CSS, PHP, the works and used to write code for hours and hours and charge people like $1000 for a simple site. People would be so impressed with the technology, and then you’d end up making residuals maintaining the website. But like a lot of technology, web design has become almost completely obsolete.
So, looking around recently, I’ve seen a lot of companies or organizations referring to their “web designer”, or the person that “maintains” their website. The interesting part about this, is that most of the organizations that I see mentioning it, are actually using a WordPress site, or one designed by WIX, using their software, and looking at the “web developer” site, I see that most of them are using the same for their own sites. I want to make it clear, that there is NOTHING wrong with these apps. In fact, I encourage the use of them, and I think they are awesome. But here’s the trick… when you have that site, maintenance is about as easy as maintaining your Facebook page. Editing the site is all point and click, and is SUPER easy, so don’t let yourself be taken advantage of by the “developers” that may be taking your money to maintain your site. This post that you are reading right this minute was added to our site in the amount of time it would take me to make a Facebook post. If you or someone in your organization has someone with the time, it takes next to zero skill to maintain these sites. They’re already built for you, you just pop in your content.
